Statement
In this series I investigate the themes of memory, childhood simplification, and the eventual disillusionment people face when they grow up and realize that their friends and family aren’t simply playmates and caregivers. As we grow older we learn more about the people in our lives and how each of them has a separate consciousness, personality and ambitions.
A series of snapshot-like still lives first capture the one-dimensional way I perceived people around me in childhood; based on pleasant interactions. A larger image corresponding to the snapshots transmits a new sense of alienation, as the once familiar people became involved in their own pursuits. I realized I only knew a part of them as a child. The figures that were once so close and easy to understand now turn away, distant and busy with their own interests, leaving me to adjust my previous perceptions.
